UFC 295 was a stellar event and Alex Pereira is the new light heavyweight champion. Jiri Prochazka’s tactic to subdue Pereira failed in the Octagon, or did it? Pereira’s win over Prochazka was a controversial one that divided the combat community. Some believed that the referee stopped the match way too early, while some believed that the stoppage was on track.

Joe Rogan initially sided with those who believed that the stoppage was premature. However, Jiri Prochazka‘s statement, affirming the referee’s decision as perfect, helped pacify the outrage. Notably, Prochazka has now contradicted his initial statement. Let’s delve into what Prochazka has to say.

Jiri Prochazka believes he could have turned the match around

In the second round, the narrative took a more concise turn compared to the initial part of the story. Prochazka, displaying considerable intensity, connected with some impactful strikes on Pereira. Nevertheless, a well-timed counter hook executed by the former Glory Kickboxing champion proved decisive, sending Prochazka to the canvas. ‘Poatan’ followed up with elbows as the Czech tried to take him down. As Pereira managed to send a dazed Prochazka to the ground, referee Marc Goddard had seen enough to call the fight.

The match divided the community and Rogan stated that he was not satisfied with the stoppage. Prochazka agreed with the defeat and claimed that Goddard’s decision to halt the match was right as he was down. However seems like now Prochazka is of the opinion that he could have turned the match around if not for the early stoppage.

In a recent conversation, the former light heavyweight champion revealed his honest take. “I could turn it around. Referee ended it too early but I didn’t want to roast him immediately” In simpler terms, Prochazka believes the decision was premature, but he chose to be gracious and didn’t want fans to direct their frustration towards the referee. Rogan was right in his statement when he said that the stoppage was not right.

Joe Rogan was totally not satisfied with the stoppage

During the analysis, the 56-year-old Rogan noted that he felt referee Marc Goddard stopped the fight a bit prematurely in his opinion. Despite Jiri Prochazka taking a hit from Alex Pereira’s left hook, Rogan believed that the Czech fighter was still actively engaged in the match.
