In his recent assignment. Dean was seen refereeing at UFC Fight Night: Volkov vs Rozenstruik. As per totalsportal, Dean receives a fee of $500,000 a year for his job as a referee.

Apart from that, Dean pockets a fee of $2500 for every match he officiates in the octagon. Fans often see the veteran referee doing his job in main events. For such main event fights, Dean receives a pay of anything between $15000-$25000. These numbers make Herb Dean the highest paid official in the UFC.

While Dean has been around the sport for a long time and has often been praised for his work, the veteran referee recently received a lot of criticism for a stoppage he made.

Herb Dean criticized for his stoppage at UFC Fight Night: Volkov vs Rozenstruik

Herb Dean was officiating the fight between Alexander Volkov and Jairzinho Rozenstruik. The fight started with Volkov landing leg kicks and as the fight progressed, Rozenstruik also threw a flurry of punches.

However, the decisive moment came when Volkov landed a right hand which connected on the jaw of Rozenstruik. The Suriname born fighter seemed hurt and covered up while Volkov landed more strikes. As Rozenstruik went on his knee, referee Dean stopped the fight. Rozenstruik wasn’t happy with the stoppage and so were some fans.
