Previously, the UFC announced its return to Singapore. UFC 275, Southeast Asia’s first-ever pay-per-view will take place at Singapore Indoor Stadium on June 11 with two world championships on the line.

The light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira will defend his title against the number two fighter Jiri Prochazka in the main event. Meanwhile, Valentina Shevchenko will return to action for her seventh title defense against Taila Santos.

Amidst this exciting news, there have been reports of UFC holding an eight-man tournament ahead of the Singapore pay-per-view. John Hyon Ko of TheAllStarMMA posted about the news of his official Twitter account.

He wrote, “Multiple sources have informed me that the #UFC will have 8-man tournaments across 4 divisions (125, 135, 145, 155) starting in Singapore during #UFC275 fight week. One source said that contracts have gone out to Asian fighters and matchmaking is underway.”

Per this news, eight-man tournaments will be held across divisions including lightweight, featherweight, bantamweight, and flyweight. And the winner of the tournament will receive a UFC contract at the end.

The company might be looking to generate its market in Asia with this concept. Meanwhile, one of the leading MMA ventures in the world, ONE Championship, has already held such tournaments in the past.

Did UFC held such a tournament in past?

Earlier, at the beginning of the UFC pay-per-views, many such eight bracket tournaments were held. However, there were no rules or weight classes initially.

But with time, the company gradually improved and went from No-Holds-Barred to a highly regulated organization. Hence, the tournament system also

stopped because of multiple obstacles.

UFC 273 will take place this weekend inside the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena, Jacksonville United States. An intriguing featherweight title fight between Alexander Volkanovski vs. ‘The Korean Zombie‘ will headline the event.

Meanwhile, the much-awaited bantamweight title rematch between former champion Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling will serve as the co-main event at the pay-per-view. Apart from the title fight, a welterweight bout between Khamzat Chimaev and Gilbert Burns is also a highlight of the event.
