UFC 261 was one of the most successful UFC events of the year. The event marked the return of fans into the arena after almost a year, and many fighters and celebrities not involved in the event were present at the arena to watch the fights. However, the most surprising of it all was that former UFC fighter Nick Diaz was in the Arena.

Diaz has not competed inside the Octagon since his fight against Anderson Silva at the UFC 183 event back in December 2015. Therefore, it was even more surprising to see the former welterweight fighter in the arena. Many fans and critics speculated why Diaz was present in the arena. Finally, it was revealed that Diaz was there to talk to UFC Dana President Dana White.

White was asked whether Diaz was just present there as a guest or was there something more to it. White was quick to reply, “Yeah, Nick wants to fight.” White confirmed they will give Diaz a fight, and that Diaz was waiting for him in the back to talk about it.

While White did not confirm any opponent for Diaz at the moment, there have been many speculations about the same.

Is Nick Diaz going to face Khamzat Chimaev?

Although no opponent for Diaz was confirmed, there is one fighter that seems to be the potential opponent of Diaz. Many have speculated that Khamzat Chimaev to be the fighter who will face Diaz on his return to the Octagon. While the news is still not official, the manager of former 2 division UFC champion BJ Penn, Chris Taylor posted a tweet hinting at the fight.

Taylor wrote, “According to sources, Nick Diaz has in fact been offered a fight with Khamzat Chimaev for his proposed Octagon return. Nothing set in stone yet. But the offer has been made”

While a fight between Chimaev and Diaz seems like a great idea, it is still not confirmed. Although one thing is confirmed- Nick Diaz is going to make his return to the Octagon. Diaz was one of the best fighters of his time, and it would surely be a treat for fans all around to see the fighter compete once again.
