Dricus Du Plessis recently responded to Sean Strickland‘s stabbing threats. He believes that he will knock the middleweight champion out before things get to that point. Nevertheless, the South African fighter is fixated on winning the title as he revealed his intentions during the media day ahead of UFC 297 in Toronto.
Things really heated up during the UFC’s 2024 seasonal press conference a few weeks ago. Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis went off on each other in a war of words, which raised anticipation for their title fight this weekend perfectly. The middleweight title contender addressed the media regarding riling up Sean Strickland during the previous press conference. Dricus Du Plessis believed that despite Sean Strickland destroying people on the mic, it was he who came out on top last time. He said, “For me, right now the last press conference was winning on the mic. That was winning against Sean Strickland at his own game.”

However, ‘Stillknocks’ Plessis is not focused on the press conference now. He is focused on winning the title and creating history by becoming the first South African champion in the UFC. “Right now this week, where we’re at, I’m not here to do that. I’m here to be the middleweight champion of the world,” the 30-year-old added. Now that the title fight is just days away, ‘Stillknocks’ further mentioned that the time for jokes is over.
No more jokes to get the crowd popping
The rivalry between Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis has been eventful. They laid a lot of trash talk on each other and even brawled in the crowd at UFC 296. However, Du Plessis wants to fight now. He does not want to make any more jokes about Sean Strickland just to get a reaction from the fans. He said, “My focus is on fighting and not making jokes or getting the crowd to laugh. That’s not why I’m here.”

Just like he mentioned earlier, Dricus Du Plessis believed that he’d already won the mental war during the press conference. Now. he’s only waiting to get inside the cage with Sean Strickland and fight this weekend. “I already won that battle… Right now, the battle is the one coming Saturday night,” the South African added.

Sean Strickland has a lot of support from the fans as he prepares for the title fight this Saturday. However, Dricus Du Plessis is not one to be counted out. He ran through his opponents and even picked up an impressive knockout win over the former champion, Robert Whittaker. It remains to be seen how things pan out for both middleweights at UFC 297.
