The mixed martial arts community has suffered a profound loss with the passing of one of the most talented radio and television personalities it has ever known. Yes, we’re talking about Geoff Rohoman, who proved that despite facing terminal illness, one can stay persistent with the things one loves. And in Rohoman’s case, it was all about MMA. He was, without a doubt, one of the entities who made sure that the Canadian fight fans weren’t left out of the MMA discussions. But how exactly did we lose Rohoman?

Well, the famed MMA personality was diagnosed with colorectal cancer back in August 2024. He went on medical leave after that but returned to Rogers Sports & Media in early 2025. However, the company released Rohoman after about 20 years of service. He worked as an anchor and reporter at Sportsnet 590 The Fan and then anchored 1130 NewsRadio in Vancouver for 4 years. After that, we heard him for the last time on Toronto’s 680 NewsRadio.

Those who listened to Rohoman knew pretty well that the man used to bring in hilarious talks in the goofiest possible ways. And that’s what made him a force to be reckoned with in the broadcasting realm. But according to reports, he was grieving the loss of his close friend and the battle rap legend, Bishop Brigante. Coincidentally, Brigante also lost the battle against colorectal cancer and passed away at the age of 46 on 12 April 2025.

And to honor the memory of the legendary radio anchor, Unified MMA tweeted, “Unified MMA: Rest in peace to a great man, [Rohoman] 🙏.” They also added a little slur against cancer. Of course, the entire fighting community has entered a state of mourning. But it’s his friends and close associates who feel the highest magnitude of pain. Let’s see what Rohoman’s friends and fellow MMA journalists had to say about his unfortunate passing.

MMA realm enters a stage of mourning for Geoff Rohoman

The famed MMA reporter, Aaron Bronsteter, was one of Rohoman’s close mates. Taking to X, Bronsteter dropped a few words for Rohoman. He wrote, “It is with great sadness to learn that my friend and colleague Geoff Rohoman passed away this week. He was a true professional in the industry and a massive combat sports fan. I got to give him a big hug at the @unifiedmma event in January.  I will miss his joy and enthusiasm.” One of his colleagues at News 1130, Reaon Ford, told Broadcast Dialogue, “He was a talented broadcaster, a big-hearted goofball, and a passionate sports fan — who is single-handedly responsible for my love of UFC — but most of all, he was a relentlessly loyal friend.”

The MMA world was already missing the enthusiasm that Rohoman brought through his microphone. And people often claimed that he was quite a genuinely enthusiastic man. Jason Hagholm, a well-known sports broadcaster, highlighted Rohoman’s style through his tweet. He wrote, “RIP @RadioRoho one of the most genuine and enthusiastic people I have ever met in my life. Geoff was a diehard combat sports fan who would chat about old school WWF. I also had the pleasure of meeting him at a @unifiedmma show last January. He walked up to me and said ‘Jason a pleasure to finally meet you’ that’s the kind of person Geoff was just a genuine caring dude. I will miss his warmth and genuineness.”

Adam Martin was also associated with Rohoman. This certainly shows the reach he had attained. Martin, through his tweet, reflected on the moments when he met the radio star for the last time. He claimed that it was UFC 297 when they last met. And at UFC 315, he’d sit beside his friend in his spirit form. Of course, the pain in these words couldn’t get any sharper.

And now, it’s our turn to pay our respects to the legendary broadcaster and reflect on the kind of influence he had on his surroundings. Rest in peace, Geoff Rohoman. You will be remembered.
