Returning to Action on December 30, Ex-UFC Champ Aljamain Sterling Outlines Harsh Gameplan – “Looking for a Finish”

Former UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling will be making his featherweight debut at UFC 300. Meanwhile, ‘Funk Master’ is also scheduled to compete at Fury Grappling 8. He recently took to social media and revealed what his plans are for the grappling contest, which will take place on the 30th of December.

Aljamain Sterling’s 2023 was a mix of emotions. The 23-4 fighter had one successful title defense against a returning Henry Cejudo at UFC 288 and lost his bantamweight title to Sean O’Malley at UFC 292. However, Sterling’s not done competing this year as he sent a message to his upcoming opponent on an Instagram post.

The ‘Funk Master’ is back for one last contest in 2023. He is scheduled to take on Kevin Dantzler in the main event of Fury Grappling 8. The former UFC champion posted a few pictures from a recent grappling training session on Instagram. There, Sterling also sent a message to his opponent, revealing his plans to secure a victory.

Aljamain Sterling wants to put on an impressive performance against Kevin Dantzler. He is not looking to win by points. Instead, the ‘Funk Master’ wants to defeat his opponent by securing a finish. Mentioning his memorable quote, Sterling said, “‘I’m coming for data [a**]’ look. December 30th we’re looking for a finish!” He wants to end the year on a high given that he lost his last UFC fight. Meanwhile, Sterling has a few more grappling bouts coming up before his UFC 300 fight.

‘Funk Master’ will compete in one more grappling bout before UFC 300

Aljamain Sterling has kept himself busy ever since his two-year-long bantamweight title reign ended at UFC 292. In addition to fighting Kevin Dantzler on December 30th, ‘Funk Master’ is also scheduled to take on a fellow UFC fighter before he locks horns with Calvin Kattar on April 13th, 2024.

The former bantamweight champion will take on up-and-coming UFC lightweight prospect Chase Hooper at ADXC 2, according to the promotion’s social media handles. The bout will take place on January 19th, 2024 at the Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi, UAE. It seems like Aljamain Sterling will have plenty of practice for his featherweight debut.

Sean O’Malley spoiled Aljamain’s Sterling dream to become a double champion. However, ‘Funk Master’ has his eyes on becoming a two-division champion. He will be taking on Calvin Kattar, who has been out of action for over a year as we wait to see how things pan out for the former champion in the 145lbs division.
