What could it be, you͏ ask? The 12-͏6 elbow stri͏kes that once ͏led to Jones’s disqual͏ification in his early days appear to have͏ been overturne͏d, ͏and they are now legal. Interestingly, in addition to legalizing the 12-6 elbow, the UFC CEO banned another MMA move.

He further added, “For those of you watching tomorrow, the rules change: the 12-6 elbow is now legal, and the ground-and-fight rule, when you have one hand down on the ground, is gone. You can’t do that anymore, and 12-6s are legal. Tomorrow night is a record-breaking event in North America!” Jon Jones faced the lone defeat of his career when he fought against Mat Hamil back in 2009. ‘Bones’ threw a series of 12-6 elbows at Hamil during a heated ground-and-pound interaction. Jones faced the first and last defeat of his career as the commission disqualified him from the fight.

However, more than a decade after their bout, the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports Mixed Martial Arts Committee (ABC) decided to lift the ban which would take place from November 1. This decision might change the dynamic of the sport as many fighters might employ this move to subdue their opponents. Regardless, as soon as Dana White made the announcement, fans took to their socials to provide their respective opinion.

Fans react as Dana White lifted the 12-6 ban before Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic fight

The timing of the revocation of the ban perfectly coincides with Jon Jones‘s anticipated return to the Octagon. A fan appears to be finding a reason behind it, “12-6 elbows are back two weeks before a Jon Jones fight, you think that’s a coincidence?”

As soon as ABC announced the revocation of the 12-6 ban, Jon Jones took to his socials to ascertain that the promotion should overturn his lone loss, “Undefeated then, undefeated now… Dana White we gotta get that loss out of the history books.” The UFC CEP kept his mum over this incident but a fan anticipates that he will overturn it soon, “Dana bout to undo Jon jones DQ loss” Furthermore, another fan called out the UFC CEO to overturn the loss, “REVOKE JON JONES “LOSS”. 28-0-1″

interestingly, a fan brings Khabib Nurmagomedov into the conversation,“Khabib would’ve killed someone with these new rules.” Will this new change of rules help in his fight against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309? According to the fan, this might significantly help him, “Legalized those elbows right before jon jones fights huh”

Last but not least, a fan had a question for the UFC CEO, “Dana, who’s your P4P best fighter in the sport right now?”
