Professional wrestling may have never become the multi-billion-dollar industry it is today if we hadn’t had Hulk Hogan popularize it during the 1980s. ‘Hulkamania’ literally ran wild during what many claim to be the golden age of WWE, as Hogan’s popularity transcended from the wrestling ring to the silver screen. Well, in a sad development recently, it appears that the WWE Hall of Famer has finally breathed his last at the age of 71.
People may say that Dwayne ‘the Rock’ Johnson is the biggest star to ever come out of WWE, or perhaps John Cena. Both of them have transitioned successfully from professional wrestling to Hollywood. However, Hulk Hogan was the first WWE megastar who also made the same transition, although he didn’t find the same success. Despite that, he was the reason why WWE became big during its Golden Era or the Rock ‘n’ Wrestling Era.
Hulk Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea, is perhaps one of the biggest icons of pop culture as well, inspiring millions of people around the world, but especially in the United States. Former UFC interim titleholder Colby Covington appears to be one of those that Hogan inspired, as he shared a message for the WWE legend. As the reason for Hogan’s passing was cited as a cardiac arrest, Covington wrote, “Thank you for inspiring a whole generation of Real Americans Hulkster. Hulkamania will live forever,” on Instagram.

Fans react to Colby Covington’s tribute to Hulk Hogan
Hulk Hogan is not someone who’s never had a controversy. In fact, he’s had quite a few of them. But guess what? His positive influence is there for us to see, with a couple of fans commenting, “America’s Champ,” and “RIP.” This proves that the ‘Hulkster’ has touched many people’s lives. Not only that, Hogan also received praise for his crossover into the UFC, as he had once walked Colby Covington out to the Octagon, which was last December. “RIP Hulkster, your walkout with him was the greatest walk out I’ve seen,” that fan commented on ‘Chaos’s Instagram post.
To substantiate how big a star Hulk Hogan really was, a fan reminisced about his days as a kid. “I was a teenager when he hit it big time, y’all have no clue what the hype was like! Rip, brother,” he wrote. The application for the moments that the WWE legend gave the older fans of professional wrestling kept coming, with another fan adding, “It’s been a great ride, see u on the other side, Hulkster.”

As we pointed out, Hulk Hogan has faced various controversies, and over time, the cheers from the fans have transformed into boos. It became clear during his final WWE appearance on RAW’s Netflix debut. But the fans were more concerned with the positive things, and on that note, a couple of fans added, “A part of our childhood is gone,” and, “If people remember you, you never die. He’s immortal,” signifying his status as a pop culture icon. He’ll surely be missed.
It’s always refreshing to see a UFC fighter step up and deliver a positive message for WWE and its legends. The rivalry between fighters and wrestlers has often sparked intense exchanges, making this gesture stand out even more.
