Ronda Rousey is one of the biggest stars in mixed martial arts history. She is credited with helping the sport go global and taking women’s MMA to a different level. She was one of the first fighters to become household names and many women have followed her into the sport. Given her stature in the sport, now and then, female fighters, especially with a judo background, are compared to her.

One such incident happened recently with Stephanie Egger. The Swiss fighter is a former judoka and won the 2010 European U23 Championships. She made her professional MMA debut in 2015. Recently, she competed at UFC Vegas 48 and won her fight in the first round against Jessica-Rose Clark. Egger won the fight via an armbar, which was the go-to submission move of Rousey.

During the post-fight press conference, the Swiss fighter was asked about the comparisons to Rousey. She said, “I already fought against her in Judo, so yeah, I know her, but yeah, I’m Stephanie, she’s Ronda. I want to go my own way in MMA.”

It has become a common notion of comparing female fighters with Ronda Rousey. Kayla Harrison, the former two-time Olympic gold medalist, and two-time PFL women’s lightweight tournament winner was also once compared to ‘Rowdy.’

However, she didn’t indulge in the comparisons and is focused on creating her own legacy.

Stephanie Egger put in an impressive performance at UFC Vegas 48

Stephanie Egger after a shaky start to her UFC career seems to be finding her feet in the promotion. The Swiss pro-MMA fighter made her debut in the sport in 2015. After going 5-1, the UFC signed her and made her promotional debut in 2020. However, her first outing didn’t go according to her plan, and she lost the fight via a unanimous decision.
