The new UFC light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill had an outstanding night this past weekend at UFC 283. At the Jeunesse Arena in Brazil, the 31-year-old defeated former champion and hometown hero Glover Teixeira to lift the title. Hill delivered one of the most dominant performances in UFC title fight history to claim the vacant light heavyweight throne. However, there is one thing the new champion wished had been different.
On Saturday, Hill made history by becoming the first Dana White Contender Series alum to lift a UFC title. With his win, the unresolved title situation at 205 lbs is also beginning to take shape. Nevertheless, the champion recently revealed one thing that he thought should have been different. Surprisingly, it has more to do with his opponent than himself.

Jamahal Hill on what should have been different at UFC 283
In a recent interview with ‘MMA Junkie,’ Hill recapped his title win and gave his thoughts on his performance. During his conversation with Mike Bohn, the new LHW champion also talked about the absolutely wild spectators that showed up to the event. However, Hill wished that they had shown more love to their hometown champion, Glover Teixeira.
“They wanted to leave… quickly after the fight because it was late. It was like three o’clock in the morning… To a degree I kind of understand. I just wish that Glover could have got his moment. Got his roaring applause and send-off and things like that.”

Hill names preferred opponent for first title defense
Jamahal Hill stated he wants to defend his title against former champion Jiří Procházka in his first title defense. Prochazka vacated the title due to his injury, making the way for two successive title fights at LHW in December and January.

Hill said, “I wanted the Jiri fight for a long time. I think that’s a big fight. And I think just the magnitude of that fight will be really great and I think I win. I think I’m better than Jiri everywhere.”
Prochazka is only one of the contenders waiting for a shot at the gold. Both Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev will also want title shots as their fight ended in a draw and they had to leave without the strap.
