Let’s be honest with ourselves. The UFC middleweight division could be a lot more entertaining. Unfortunately, despite this division having the highest potential for entertainment, the fights seem to be stagnant now. However, hold that thought because Robert Whittaker vs. Marvin Vettori is in the works and could happen soon.

This bout between two of Adesanya’s last opponents will see the winner look to stake a claim to become the next title challenger after Israel Adesanya vs Jared Cannonier.

Aussie versus Italian: Who’s winning? Robert Whittaker or Marvin Vettori?

This is a good fight for Whittaker to take because it gives him a change of setting from the Adesanya affair. His second fight with Israel Adesanya was quite close, with fans stating that he actually could’ve dethroned the Nigerian-born Kiwi.

Meanwhile, Vettori has also faced ‘The Last Stylebender’ twice and lost. Hence, ‘The Reaper‘ fight will offer the Italian a spell away from the title picture and a key back to the championship scene.

About how both fighters would fare against each other, Whittaker’s specialty lies in the jab, cross, and his specialty head kick; in other words, his stand-up game. On the other hand, Vettori, who is also strike-oriented, would fail in durability and counterattacks compared to ‘The Reaper’.

Moreover, it would help Vettori be more tactical and intelligent when it comes to Robert Whittaker. There are definitely a few things in Vettori’s game that might need to change. Moving headfirst for a slugfest against the opponent will not work.

Despite having some of the best natural durability in the game, pairing Vettori’s charge into Whittaker’s deadly blows is not a good scene for anyone.

‘Mix and Match’ in the UFC middleweight division

The middleweight division gives off an imploding vibe within itself. The lack of exciting matchups now makes it a drudge to watch and experience, with things moving a lot more slowly than what fans want.

However, we should note that this is a temporary phase in the division, as things are likely to change with newer and more exciting fighters entering the scene. Alex Pereira is one such name.
