UFC 298 is around the corner with some great matchups. One of those includes Russian fighter Roman Kopylov taking on Anthony Hernandez in a middleweight clash. As we inch closer to the pay-per-view, let’s take a look at the 32-year-old’s record, especially the number of losses he’s suffered so far throughout his MMA career.

Roman Kopylov is on a roll at the moment. He is on a 4-fight winning streak and defeated the likes of Josh Fremd and Claudio Ribeiro, just to name a few. However, his UFC career did not start with a bang, as he suffered a couple of losses. Let’s have a look at that.

Roman Kopylov has two losses in the UFC

As mentioned earlier, Roman Kopylov had a rocky start in Dana White‘s promotion. He made his debut in 2019 against Karl Roberson, who has a rather modest record, as an undefeated 6-0 fighter. However, Kopylov’s UFC debut resulted in his first-ever professional MMA defeat via a final-round submission from Roberson. Following that fight, the Russian fighter took a hiatus from fighting for almost two years.

When Roman Kopylov returned to action in 2021, he squared off against a fellow Russian fighter, Albert Duraev. This time, the fight went into the distance. However, Kopylov registered his second consecutive loss since joining the UFC via a unanimous decision. This certainly put doubt surrounding his position in the UFC, but he bounced back with four consecutive wins, and interestingly, his next opponent also has a similar record, to say the least.

Anthony Hernandez will be returning to action after almost nine months. He is returning to action after his only outing in 2023, which he won. Now, he will be taking on Roman Kopylov at UFC 298, and, as we mentioned earlier, has almost the same number of professional fights as Hernandez. ‘Fluffy’ has a record of 11-2 (1 no-contest), while Kopylov has a record of 12-2. The Russian fighter has had just one more professional fight than Hernandez.

On the other hand, Anthony Hernandez has also lost two of his fights in the UFC against Markus Perez and Kevin Holland. Furthermore, he is also on a 4-fight winning streak and defeated fighters like Marc-Andre Barriault and Edmen Shahbazyan. In addition to that, Hernandez and Roman Kopylov have both fought Josh Fremd and both of them emerged victorious against him. The only difference in their UFC runs? Hernandez has had one more UFC fight than his UFC 298 opponent. ‘Fluffy’ is 5-2 in the promotion while Kopylov is 4-2.

The fight between Roman Kopylov and Anthony Hernandez seems to be a great matchup for the 185 lbs division. Both are on similar paths and UFC 298 could prove to be a great opportunity for them to inch closer to the middleweight title picture. It remains to be seen how things pan out for both fighters on 17th February.
