Ronda Rousey making a comeback to MMA was not on everyone’s radar, as a former UFC champion has now reacted to the news. The response Rousey received was quite overwhelming. Without any tease or rumors, Most Valuable Promotions dropped a massive announcement on Tuesday. In a partnership with Netflix as the broadcasters, MVP will promote their first MMA-only event with ‘Rowdy’ and Gina Carano facing each other on May 16 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. The bout is set to be a 145-pound clash. And upon hearing that, a former UFC featherweight champion has straight-up levied “ducking” allegations on Rousey.
Cris Cyborg reacts to Ronda Rousey’s comeback fight
“🤡 all those years of ducking me at 145 when we were both in our prime?! wrote Cris Cyborg on X. “I thought you had CTE or something?”
What Cyborg did was basically take a sly dig at Ronda Rousey over some of her previous comments claiming she had neurological issues. The former women’s UFC featherweight champion found it very shocking that despite claiming to have those issues, Rousey is making a comeback to MMA.
Also, when we talk about their rivalry, both Cyborg and Rousey expressed their interest in fighting each other. Despite that, the superfight never came to fruition. And it was mainly because of weight class differences. As such, while Cyborg competed in the featherweight category, Rousey fought as a bantamweight.

However, for her comeback fight, ‘Rowdy’ is ready for a featherweight bout. And according to her, Gina Carano stands as a perfect opponent for her return. Speaking of Carano’s records, she did not have a long MMA career, but was among the first women fighters.
Although Carano was part of the UFC roster after UFC’s parent company, Zuffa LLC, bought Strikeforce, she never fought in the promotion. Her record stands at 7-1 in professional MMA. And Rousey seems quite content with the idea of making her comeback against a fighter like Carano.
But does the MMA fighter-turned-actress feel the same?
Gina Carano shares thoughts on fighting ‘Rowdy’
Ronda Rousey was among the pioneers of women’s MMA. As such, she was the first women’s UFC bantamweight champion. On top of that, she also had six consecutive title defenses before losing her first bout against Holly Holm. Surely, Rousey’s career record is something to admire, and Gina Carano never hesitated when the proposal came about their potential fight.
“Ronda came to me and said there is only one person she would make a comeback for, and it has been her dream to make this fight happen between us,” Gina Carano said. “She thanked me for opening up doors for her in her career and was respectful in asking for this fight to happen. This is an honor.
I believe I will walk out of this fight with the win, and I anticipate it will not come easily, which I welcome. This is as much for Ronda and me as it is for the fans and mixed martial arts community. What a time to be alive.”
That being said, the MMA community eagerly awaits to watch two of the legends of the sport come back to fight again. On that note, who do you think wins between Rousey and Carano? Let us know in the comments below!
