Charles Oliveira was recently featured in an interview with MMA journalist and podcaster James Lynch. The duo spoke on a plethora of topics, including Colby Covington’s bold call out to Makhachev. 

‘Do Bronx’s measured response to Covington’s callout revealed a fighter who is focused and unflustered. He acknowledged the potential magnitude of a bout between Covington and Makhachev, recognizing the excitement that such a fight would generate. The Brazilian asserted, “That would also be a really big fight. These names are super exciting! It’d be a big fight for Islam and Colby…”

What’s more? Lynch followed up with an intriguing question: “Would you ever fight at welterweight in your career?”

Oliveira’s response indicated that he was open to the possibility. But there are some terms and conditions involved. He revealed, “Really – my future just kind of depends on how things play out. If the money’s right, the situation’s right – [if] it feels good for me – 100%! But it just has to be in the right circumstances…”

When questioned about the apparent lack of social media banter leading up to the fight, Oliveira maintained that the pressure remains the same. He further added, “It’s [the pressure] the same. He just feels that sometimes you prepare for a fight differently. Maybe he’s just quiet – more quiet this time around. But he’s not taking that [the fight] any different than before…”

What was ‘Chaos’s callout to the arch-nemesis of ‘Do Bronx’?

Just a couple of days prior to Oliveira’s feature, Colby Covington starred on Lynch’s podcast to promote his upcoming fight against Leon Edwards for the UFC Welterweight Championship belt. In the interview, ‘Chaos’ didn’t mince his words when addressing Islam Makhachev, who is currently the reigning UFC Lightweight Champion. Covington’s callout was bold and provocative, and it sent ripples throughout the MMA community.

“There’s that little m**gol. He’s been talking a little bit, saying that he wants to come up and fight in a real man’s division. Cause he’s sitting in a little boy’s weight class–and I’m talking about Islam Makhachev… So, that little m**gol has been talking. He’s been saying some things–he wants to face a real man–[maybe] America’s champ [referring to himself]. So that might present itself as well,” declared ‘Chaos.’
