Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s relationship with his father is very strong, to say the least. The world was shocked when it was revealed that he was admitted to a hospital in Moscow after being infected with COVID-19. Nurmagomedov’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, confirmed this news on ESPN.

Abdelaziz said, “Khabib has been in contact with Vladimir Putin over the last several days, and he has promised Khabib’s father will receive the best medical treatment available.” He added, “Khabib’s No 1 message to people around the world right now is to stay at home, to prevent the spread of coronavirus.”

Abdelaziz also spoke to MMA fighting regarding this unfortunate situation. He said, “The president reached out to him (Khabib) a couple of times…It makes us a little bit at ease, but everything’s in Allah’s hands.” Unfortunately for Nurmagomedov, his father passed away only a few months later in July due to COVID-19 complications.

Nurmagomedov was crowned the UFC lightweight champion back in 2018 after his victory against Al Iaquinta. He remained champion for over two years before deciding to retire. This retirement happened after his father’s death, as he promised his mother that he wouldn’t fight professionally again. Nurmagomedov retired in his prime while he was still undisputed, and due to this fact, he will probably be regarded as the greatest fighter in UFC history.
