Kelvin Gastelum beat Chris Curtis via unanimous decision at UFC 287. Gastelum and Curtis faced each other on the prelims of UFC 287 in Miami. The final fight on the prelims, Gastelum vs. Curtis was the perfect warm-up for the main card as both fighters went full throttle ahead for 15 minutes inside the Miami-Dade Arena.
31-year-old Kelvin Gastelum has been a promising middleweight contender for years now. The Arizona-based MMA star has an 11-8 UFC record. However, the 17-8 athlete has been struggling with injuries and has not been able to maintain consistency. His losses were against high-profile names including former champions Israel Adesanya, Robert Whittaker, and Chris Weidman. He also holds a win over Hall of Famer and former champion Michael Bisping.

As for Chris Curtis, he came to UFC 287 with a 4-1 UFC record. His only loss was against Jack Hermansson after Curtis stepped in to face ‘The Joker’ on short notice. In fact, Curtis won 9 out of his last 10 fights. He got back to winning ways against Joaquin Buckley at UFC 282 and wanted to continue the streak at UFC 287.

The UFC 287 bout between Kelvin Gastelum and Chris Curtis delivered as advertised. The two middleweights went out on an all-out war from the first bell. While Gastelum had early success landing shots on Curtis’ head, his opponent invested in body shots.
Both fighters were evenly matched for the entirety of the fight. Veteran commentator Jon Anik also observed how Gastelum opened as the underdog and closed the fight as the favorite. At the end of the night, the judges gave Gastelum a unanimous decision win with the scorecards reading 29-28, 29-28, and 30-27 in his favor.
