Following his debut in the promotion, Conor McGregor had a phenomenal run in the UFC. Chiefly, the period between UFC 189 to UFC 205 was something magical. Throughout his remarkable journey in the premier MMA organization, his coach John Kavanagh was with him.

Recently, Kavanagh reflected on McGregor’s aura during his trip to the UFC dual championship.

Talking to Adam Catterall and Nick Peet, the SBG Ireland coach revealed what made McGregor’s run before the Floyd Mayweather contest special.

“Yeah, for a bunch of reasons; Obviously, the fights were great. The people getting to meet up quite unique personality and all those incredible sound bites for you guys,” said the 45-year-old.

“He’s a star. He just seems to have a natural charisma about him. And has these witty replies at the drop of a hat.”

“Of course, the fights themselves. There’s no point if you’re going out there & saying all these things & then you just keep losing. He had a great streak,” concluded Kavanagh.

SBG coach suggested that McGregor constantly winning made his trash talk special. However, ‘The Notorious‘ hasn’t had a pleasant time inside the Octagon lately. After the UFC 205, when he held two championships on his shoulders, McGregor has stepped inside a competitive combat setting five times. Unfortunately for him, he was on the bitter end of it on four occasions.

Can Conor McGregor recreate his initial run in the UFC?

McGregor is 1-3 in his last four bouts inside the Octagon. Besides, his only win in these four bouts came at 170 lbs. However, it could be seen as a positive sign since McGregor looked phenomenal at welterweight.

And looking at the Irishman’s size lately on his social media, his return could be a welterweight contest rather than a 155 lbs bout. Yet, there is no clarity on the exact timeline when ‘The Notorious’ would make the highly awaited comeback.

The grappling-heavy welterweight division has some very tough matchups for the Irish striker.
