In line with his character, the UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland has done yet another thing that is sure to make Dana White’s blood pressure shoot up sharply. This new incident comes just two weeks before Strickland’s UFC 297 grudge fight against #2 ranked Dricus Du Plessis on January 20 in Toronto, Canada. What did he do now?

Strickland and Du Plessis were recently at the UFC 2024 Seasonal Press Conference and took digs at each other. In fact, the latter took some cheap shots at the champion’s childhood. Amidst all this back-and-forth, Sean Strickland cannot afford pulling out of an important title defense. But the champion might be injured.

‘Tarzan’ suffered a burn while having a fireworks battle with a group of people which included Nina Marie Danielle. The UFC champion and others were shooting fireworks at each other. To make matters worse, Strickland was shirtless which increased the possibility of an injury. And it wasn’t long before the expected happened and he got hurt, suffering a minor burn near his elbow.

Nina Marie, who runs the popular MMA YouTube channel Nina Drama, is very good friends with Strickland and has released several interviews and fun videos with Sean Strickland. The one with them shooting fireworks was one such video that was highly entertaining for fans. However, it is not just ‘Tarzan’ who was injured. Several people who were a part of the ludicrous situation suffered minor injuries.

Now further, the middleweight fighter and the MMA journalist may have enjoyed the ‘extreme activity’, but it is certain one man didn’t. Dana White is sure to have been upset at one of his champions for putting his health and consequently the upcoming UFC 297 main event in jeopardy.

It is unclear whether this injury would affect Strickland’s upcoming fight. But there doesn’t seem to be much cause for concern as the injury looks quite mild, all things considered. So far, there are no reports of the main event being canceled because of Strickland.

UFC 297 will mark the champion’s first title defense. And his opponent, who is highly motivate to snatch the middleweight title, won’t back down at all. This was evident during the UFC 2024 Seasonal Press Conference.

Sean Strickland opened up about his difficult childhood in a recent appearance on comedian Theo Von’s ‘This Past Weekend’ podcast. The 32-year-old revealed that he was very upset with Du Plessis for mocking the abuse he received as a child at the hands of his father.

“There’s some things that are off limits. You don’t really talk about a man’s wife, you don’t talk about a man’s kids and you don’t talk about like f***ing a kid being abused. These things were all off limits,” he told Von. Unfortunately, fans did not show much sympathy to the champion because in the recent past, he took digs at the wives of Sean O’Mally and Ian Garry because of their personal situations.

Hi, I am Kanishk and I am a UFC Writer at EssentiallySports. I love telling the stories of these magnificent fighters and this wildly unpredictable sport that is so frustrating and yet so joyous at the same time. I never really used to watch MMA, thinking it too crude or brutal a sport to deserve respect.
