Strickland wants to “run it back” against Dricus Du Plessis

Sean Strickland is campaigning for a rematch with UFC middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis following their controversial bout at UFC 297. Despite losing the belt in a split decision, Strickland believes he deserves another shot at the title.

In a recent statement made on X, he stated, “I lost a close decision that Dana himself thought I won. Everyone did…The stats did. That needs to be run back…”

He also prefaced his comment by comparing the situation between Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira when ‘The Last Stylebender’ was given a rematch after getting knocked out by ‘Poatan’ at UFC 281 in 2022. His comments that Dana White thought he had won align with the statement made by the UFC boss at the UFC 297 post-fight press conference where he had stated, “I had it 2-2 going into the last round and I thought Strickland won the last round,”

Despite the controversy surrounding the decision, whether Strickland will indeed secure a rematch remains uncertain, especially with the UFC’s apparent plans to book Du Plessis against Israel Adesanya for the next title bout.
