Sean Strickland is a class act whether you believe it or not. The American fighter’s tough exterior and unabashed nature can throw anyone off. Anyone could be fooled by his endless X-rated rants against Ian Garry or Israel Adesanya, but there’s more to him.

In a recent confession, his most recent opponent, Dricus Du Plessis revealed the conversation the two of them had. This was directly after the match had ended and the fighters were awaiting the results of it. Here’s the whole story.

Dricus Du Plessis took away Sean Strickland’s middleweight title at UFC 297. The fight was as electrifying as fans expected it to be. Both the fighters showed up and it was a complete stand-up fight with a few short-lived takedown attempts from ‘Stillknocks’.

The fighter was bloodied and bruised. And even though UFC head honcho Dana White scored the fight in Strickland’s favor, the judges of the match had it for Du Plessis. In fact, apparently even ‘Tarzan’ himself believed that his opponent took the win home.

“He came to me in the cage directly after the fight, before they announced me as the new champion.” Du Plessis said in a recent conversation. “I went to him, I shook his hand and said, ‘You’re a warrior, well done, was a great fight’. And he said, ‘No, you definitely beat me.’ He said that to me. He said, ‘You deserve it, you won that fight.’

The fighters beefed and beefed before the fight went down. Du Plessis even took a dig at Strickland’s abusive past. However, in the end, perhaps business is business but sportsman spirit remains high- the two shook hands as Du Plessis won the title. And now the question of the hour is, where would be his first title defense?

Du Plessis called out his former rival, Israel Adesanya once he’d won the fight. Unfortunately, Adesanya seems like he’s still recovering from his powerful activity as champion that may have ultimately cost him the title. ‘The Stylebender’ is on a break and nobody knows when it will end.

And it isn’t even the first callout that’s gone his way. Even Alex Pereira urged ‘Izzy’ to come to fight him at light heavyweight. As for Du Plessis, he may just find an interesting opponent in none other than Khamzat Chimaev who was promised a title shot at middleweight if he were to win his UFC 294 bout against Kamaru Usman.
