Former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos has issued a call out to the former interim champion in Justin Gaethje. Gaethje’s manager Ali Abdelaziz took to Twitter to declare that ‘The Highlight’ was being avoided by the top lightweights.
“Everyone in the top 5 running from @Justin_Gaethje,” wrote the Dominance MMA manager. That got the Brazilian RDA’s attention.
Dos Anjos is also looking for an opponent for his next fight. A top-ranked contender like Gaethje most certainly fits the bill for him. “Guess who’s the highest ranking available? I’m on it. Send me the contract,” Dos Anjos responded.

‘The Highlight’ currently occupies the no.2 rank in the lightweight division. He was stopped by the former champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 254 and he hasn’t fought since.
As for Dos Anjos, he returned to the lightweight division last year and earned a split decision over Paul Felder. However, one might argue it should have been a unanimous decision for him.

The former champion was slated to face Abdelaziz’s other client Islam Makhachev upon his return to the 155 lbs division. But the Russian’s withdrawal opened the door for ‘The Irish Dragon’.
RDA and Makhachev had been taking shots at each other recently as both are coming off wins. Now, Gaethje is also an option for Dos Anjos to fight next.
Is Justin Gaethje vs Rafael dos Anjos the fight to make?
RDA is a former World Champion and has a lot of name value; so, does ‘The Highlight’. Stylistically, the fight is a barn burner. Gaethje’s reckless style combined with his vicious power will be a tough test for the technical master Dos Anjos. But the Brazilian is an expert in his trade and he thrives in chaos.

Also, both fighters have tasted UFC gold and are veteran campaigners. A win will make either one of them relevant in the title conversation yet again.

What’s more, RDA has expressed his interest to accept the bout. Only the UFC’s official stamp is left to make the deal done. Will the UFC book RDA vs Gaethje? What do you think? Share your thoughts.
