Michael Chandler wanted Conor McGregor at his “biggest” and his “baddest.” Well, it looks like his wish may have been granted. This gives him the opportunity to step up to a weight class that’s alien to him. However, for Chandler, it’s all the edge of the knife.

Chandler is not afraid of a challenge. He is not afraid of McGregor’s mind games. After so much speculation, ‘The Notorious’ has finally admitted it. Michael Chandler is certainly his next opponent. However, he threw in twists of his own, and now he has his opponent all riled up. Here’s what Chandler just declared.

Conor McGregor declared on the first day of the new year that he’d take Michael Chandler next. All of it at 185 pounds in the month of June as opposed to the expected April UFC 300 fight. Chandler was quick to respond. He accepted it with grace and excitement.

Now, the fighter has taken to his X account to address the fight once again. The buildup to the fight itself has been unreal all the same. With Chandler getting more and more hyped with time and McGregor just being his ‘Notorious’ self.

Chandler declared that he was in camp. The weight gain has to be massive, and getting used to a new weight class must feel like a big switch. However, if Chandler is to be believed, this new camp has him feeling “dangerous.” He’s going from lightweight to middleweight. Shaking things up is only natural.

Clearly, things are afoot. Fighting at the same weight class as Sean Strickland is no coincidence for McGregor either. He’s already won the featherweight and lightweight titles before. So, it may just be a calculated move to go and shake up a whole new division. What does this mean for the future of the 185-pound belt?

The middleweight division has two new threats

First, Khamzat Chimaev, and now it’s Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler. It looks like Israel Adesanya‘s absence has seen a lot of changes. Regardless, Sean Strickland is facing Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 297. The champion of the match may see one of these three as a new challenge if the UFC deems it so.

If Conor McGregor is making a grand return, it can’t be without high stakes. He is the UFC’s biggest star after all. While this is just speculation, it still makes sense to pit the winner of the two against the champion at some point. While there are other interesting fighters in the middleweight division, one can only assume three giants from lightweight and welterweight entering it will make more space than necessary. Can one of them win the belt from ‘Tarzan’ if Du Plessis doesn’t?
