Recently during an interview, Thompson talked about the same. He said, “The guy is improving everywhere, and that’s what makes it exciting for me. That’s what I’m excited you know hopefully with a good win over Gilbert Burns will send me up to that next fight. Set me up for that title fight against Kamaru Usman.”

“Before he was just taking people down on the ground and pounding them out and just controlling him. Now he’s knocking guys out, you know he TKO Colby Covington; he knocked out Gilbert Burns in the first round with a jab, knocks out one of the best strikers in the division Jorge Masvidal,” Thompson said.
Usman has won all of his UFC fights and has won and defended the UFC welterweight title 4 times. Therefore, it will be a challenge for Thompson should he ever face Usman.
