“She Could Be Overthinking”- Rose Namajunas Speaks Out On Zhand Weili’s New Partnership

UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas and Zhang Weili are set to have their rematch at UFC 268 on November 6, 2021. The former champion lost her title to Namajunas at UFC 261 via knockout. In the buildup to the rematch, Zhang has made a few changes to win the title back from Rose. She changed her appearance, moved her camp to the United States, and is training with former UFC two-division champion Henry Cejudo.

When asked about her thoughts about the changes, Rose said, “It’s sort of expected for her to change something up because obviously whatever she did last time didn’t work so well for her. Whatever she’s got to do. I’m sure she’s going to be very motivated and ready to go.

“I don’t really make too much of it. I just know she’s going to be thinking a lot, and she could be overthinking, or she could be more motivated than ever. So I just have to be ready for the best version of Weili, no matter what,” Rose added.

Rose also mentioned how training with Henry means Zhang is probably wrestling more. According to her, Zhang will try to close the distance because she was not winning on the outside.

Rose Namajunas vs. Zhang Weili

Rose Namajunas and Zhang Weili met in the octagon for the first time at UFC 261 on April 24, 2021. Namajunas came out the winner as she landed a head kick and knocked Zhang out. That was just the second time Zhang had tasted defeat in her career, the first one coming way back in 2013. She had been on a 21 fight win streak.

Zhang has been training with Henry Cejudo, and Cejudo thinks that she is a Ferrari. She just needed the right camp and is impressed with whatever she has picked up. Henry said, “This is literally Zhang Weili 2.0. I want you to lock your doors, hide your thugs and give us all your roses because Weili 2.0 is coming for all of you.”
