While Joe Rogan is passionate about MMA, his interests are pretty diverse. In ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’, he discusses subjects of his interests. Thus, his fans get deeper insights into who he is as a person. In a new episode featuring guests Bert Kreischer and Tony Hinchcliffe, Rogan spoke about how he started playing pool.

He explained how Tom Cruise’s movie ‘The Color of Money’ made the game popular. As per him, that was also the time he first played pool.

Rogan further said, “I think it was like almost 86?… I had this girl that I was dating at the time. She was like super competitive. She wanted to beat me at pool. … And she like, we went to it and we’re both terrible, but we’re playing and I was like, ‘I’m gonna get better and beat this lady’, like f**k her, I was talking a lot of sh*t.”

“And I remember, then as time went on, I would play it every now and then with a friend. You know, like you’d be at a bar… That’ll be fun. But then, when I really started getting into it, I realized like ‘oh, like there’s layers and layers and layers to this thing.”

This led Rogan to wonder why playing pool wasn’t more popular. He feels pool is ‘addictive’ when one gets good at it. They further discussed how Cruise did not know how to play pool while filming ‘The Color of Money’. Instead, the producers had to hire Mike Siegel- an American pool player who taught the actor to play pool.

Joe Rogan discusses late actor Jackie Gleason’s pool playing skills

After conversing about Tom Cruise, Rogan went to discuss Jackie Gleason’s skills. As per the MMA analyst, the actor had legitimate skills and played like a real pool player.

Besides this, Rogan discussed how Gleason played a serious role in ‘The Hustler’ movie. As the UFC commentator felt it was a sharp contrast to his other roles, he also mimicked the late actor.

Bert Kreischer then praised Rogan because his interests were ‘contagious’ and because the UFC commentator is one of the most curious people he has met.
