Mayra Bueno Silva is up for a fight against a fighter with a similar record in Macy Chiasson this weekend. The two will meet in the octagon on June 29 at UFC 303 to fight bantamweight fight, as the former’s coming off a loss against Raquel Pennington earlier this year.

The 32-year-old Brazilian fighter last won a fight back in February 2023 and has yet to register a win since then. After squandering the chance to win the bantamweight strap at UFC 297, she’ll look to regroup with a win against Macy Chiasson. But before we get to that fight, let’s have a look at the nickname of Mayra Bueno Silva.

Mayra Bueno Silva is Brazilian, born in the Municipality of Uberlândia, Minas Gerais state in 1991. She moved to the Campinas area of Sao Pauolo where she started her MMA journey. The 32-year-old turned pro in 2015 and showed promise early on.

After only four professional MMA fights in the regional Brazilian circuit, she was invited to Dana White‘s Contender Series (DWCS) two years later in 2018. She defeated Mayana Souza with ease in the first round via a ninja choke and was signed to the UFC off the back of this dominant performance.

She has a unique and distinctive nickname, ‘Sheetara’, which is based upon the female humanoid-feline ‘Cheetara’ from the cult children’s cartoon series, ‘Thunder Cats’, reflecting her speed and ferocity in the octagon.

Speaking to MMA Junkie about her nickname, she revealed that it was given to her by her coach Evangelista ‘Cyborg’ Santos, who seemingly loved Thunder Cats since he gave all his students nicknames related to the cartoon series. But did you know that a fellow UFC fighter took shots at Silva’s nickname once? Let’s have a look at that front.

Mayra Bueno Silva’s nickname mocked by ex-UFC champ

‘Sheetara’ sparked a lot of controversy after her fight against Holly Holm was deemed a no-contest after she failed a drug test. Many fighters take these things seriously and former champion Julianna Pena did not stop from sharing a few harsh words about Mayra Bueno Silva, mocking her nickname and turning it to ‘CHEAT-ara’, while also calling her a “curtain jerker’.

You fought two 41yr olds this year and you had to cheat in order to get it done. Can’t pass a [drug test]? Keep my name out of your mouth ya dumb broad,” Julianna Pena wrote on X. However, Mayra Bueno Silva has a new challenge up ahead, so far, there have been no reports of any use of unfair means by the Brazilian as she gears up for UFC 303.
