It stunned many fans when Amanda Nunes lost the UFC 269 bout against Julianna Peña. Perhaps this is because Nunes has not lost a fight in a very long time via submission.

While Nunes is optimistic about fighting against Peña again and winning back the title, retired UFC fighter Daniel Cormier is not at all happy with how the bout went. As many speak about Nunes as a legendary name in the UFC, her performance did not impress Cormier.

He said (h/t WMMA Rankings), “We speak about her in such legendary terms… To tap like that after being in that choke, it almost feels like she should’ve just went to sleep.”

He further added. “If you’re going to lose your place amongst the greats, even if it’s temporary- she can go back and beat Julianna Peña, (but) it felt like she should go out on her shield more.”

Cormier pointed out how Nunes got nervous and her facial expressions changed in the second round. ‘The Lioness’ realized that Peña was going to be so much more of a tough opponent than she had thought.

Like Daniel Cormier, Joe Rogan too criticized her performance. However, it looks like Nunes will come back stronger than ever. The UFC women’s new bantamweight champion and Nunes may fight once again soon. Both have shown interest in another bout.

Their second bout would be twice as smashing. Peña will be eager to defend her title and Nunes would want to grab the title opportunity. Both of them will surely test their mettle in a fierce battle.
