“Shut Them Up”- Khabib Nurmagomedov Pulls Dustin Poirier’s Leg on Their Fight’s 2 Year Anniversary

Khabib Nurmagomedov trolls his former opponent Dustin Poirier with a throwback picture on their fight’s two-year anniversary. The Dagestan native has left the UFC, but he is not leaving a chance to take a dig at his former rivals.

The undefeated former lightweight champion faced Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 in a lightweight title bout. It was Nurmagomedov’s second title defense, while Poirier was on a four-fight win streak.

However, Nurmagomedov finished ‘The Diamond’ in the third round of the fight via rare naked choke. September 7th marked the second anniversary of Nurmagomedov’s stunning win over Poirier.

Meanwhile, to celebrate this, ‘The Eagle’ posted a picture of him choking ‘The Diamond’ on his Instagram account. The Dagestan native took a dig at the American fighter with a witty caption.

‘The Eagle’ wrote, “And then the time comes you shut them up, literally.”. The Diamond is yet to react to the post. However, the latter reflected differently to celebrate two-year anniversary of his fight against Nurmagomedov.

The American fighter lost his title fight against ‘The Eagle’ at UFC 242 on 7th September 2019. Poirier lost via third-round submission in the bout, ending his dream of the lightweight gold.

Two years later, while reflecting on his loss against Nurmagomedov, Poirier posted an emotional note on the internet. The 32-year-old wrote, “2 years ago today I walked offstage after the press conference. I was heartbroken and unsure of my future.”

He added, “Today I’m preparing for the chance to wrap gold around my waist at the end of the year. Keep grinding and chase your dreams! Let them doubt.”

The 28-6 record holder hinted he might retire right after his loss of ‘The Eagle’ as it devastated him. However, he kept his head high and didn’t give up. Poirier went on winning three fights in a row after that loss.

‘The Diamond’ proved his haters wrong and has earned his spot on the roster with back-to-back amazing performances. It will surely excite combat fans to see if he wins the lightweight gold this time.
