Tony Ferguson is one of the best lightweight fighters in the UFC. The former interim lightweight champ is all set to face Beneil Dariush at UFC 262.

Ferguson last fought at the UFC 256 event, where he lost to Charles Oliveira via decision. This was ‘El Cucuy’s’ second loss in a row. He had lost the previous fight to Justin Gaethje at UFC 249.

Like almost every UFC lightweight fighter of the last decade, Ferguson also wants to compete against the great Khabib Nurmagomedov. ‘The Eagle’ is the longest-reigning UFC lightweight champion in history and was undefeated in his professional career.

Ferguson and Nurmagomedov have had their scuffles outside the ring, but the pair have still not met inside the Octagon. ‘El Cucuy’ recently came on the Ariel Helwani show and discussed the same.

During the interview, Ferguson talked about how he believed a fight will eventually happen. He said.“I’m getting closer to Khabib and that’s the only fight that his pops wanted for him and that’s the only fight that they agreed to.

“So like I said before on that one. If he needs to be retired and go get peds and come back stronger, I’m just kidding with that, you know. But he’s gotta watch out man, they’re going to try to get as much film on me as they can, but I don’t know what all the film you need, I gave you two of the best ones.” 

Ferguson is eager for that fight to happen and has called out Nurmagomedov plenty of times, and even during this interview he said the same.“So, sign the dotted line Khabib.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov has been retired since 2020 and has even vacated his championship belt, yet many people do not believe that to be true. ‘El Cucuy’ is one such person, and he talked about the same.

‘El Cucuy’ does not believe Nurmagomedov is retired for good

“Well, I have a pretty good idea when people are calling their bluffs right. Remember when I called his bluff on UFC 209. Same thing dude, I know Khabib and that’s the only reason I could look in that guy’s soul, so it’s different. So regardless of this chess, checkers or whatever it is or even a friendly game of video game, I’m sure we’ll play one time because the fans want to see something like that.”
