“Snapped Pretty Early On in the Fight” – Forced to Fight on One Leg Against Dustin Poirier, Conor McGregor Finally Discloses Turn of Events That Led to Horrific Injury

Dana White‘s prodigal son has been out of the UFC for the past two years. After Conor McGregor snapped his leg in his UFC 264 loss against Dustin Poirier two years ago, the Irishman has been out recovering from the injury. And with USADA out of the picture soon, the hour of his return is nigh.

Many think he is not the same hungry and passionate fighter as he once was, blaming his newfound wealth and superstardom for the seeming dip in his performance. However, the Irishman seems more motivated than ever to return and reclaim the throne. At least that is what it seems from one of his recent Instagram posts, where he gives a surprising update on his leg injury.

Conor McGregor reveals he fought against Poirier on one leg

Conor McGregor took to his Instagram account and posted a video of him practicing his heel kicks. The former two-division champion also wrote a long caption accompanying the video, showing his resolve to return and win. He talked about his leg being afflicted with stress fractures going into the third Poirier fight, and this forced him to fight on one leg. This, he revealed, was the reason he went for a guillotine choke early on in the fight.

“Lead hook kick work out of both stances, pre my last fight. You can see I have the standing back leg double shin padded and taped up as the damage was mounting on the stress fractures… I didn’t get to let a lot of these weapons go in the last fight as it snapped pretty early on in the fight, I just didn’t bear weight on it till the last few seconds of the round,” he wrote.

‘Mac’ also talked about his past ACL tears and how he won his titles on one leg following the ACL injuries. McGregor concluded the post by sending a warning to all his potential opponents, showing his determination to beat them all.

“I developed the ability to fight on one leg when recovering from a full acl tear years prior so I was able to maneuver around it until the end. One of the reasons I went for the guillotine was the leg was already broke. I won all of my ufc world titles essentially on one paw. All 3 of them. Heavy is the fight game, only God knows and only God can judge. Anyways happy days because it’s not broke now. Now it’s titanium. Tick tock yous little bums. One by one,” McGregor added.

However, this raises the question of when exactly he will return and who he will face. And Dana White hinted at this in a recent press conference.

When will Conor McGregor fight next?

Conor McGregor will most probably face Michael Chandler in a welterweight bout after their TUF 31 season as rival coaches. UFC CEO Dana White has talked about ‘Notorious’ possibly returning to the UFC 300 megacard in April ’24. The Dubliner, however, has already laid down a roadmap for his plans after the Chandler bout.

In a post on his social media, McGregor indicated that if he won against Chandler, he would be looking to fight Justin Gaethje for the BMF belt next.
