Jamahal Hill almost got into a brawl with Alex Pereira at the UFC’s Performance Institute last month. ‘Sweet Dreams’, of course, has been nursing a grouse since UFC 300 since he feels ‘Poatan’ ‘cheated’ him in their title fight. The former champion has been angling for a rematch ever since, and talking trash on social media to try and make it happen.

So when he saw Pereira and his team training at the PI, Hill went up to the champ and asked him not to ‘run away’ to heavyweight since he was coming for his light heavyweight title soon. ‘Poatan’, a man of action and few words, threw some gloves Hill’s way, inviting him to get into the cage with him at the PI. Hill refused, telling Pereira he wouldn’t do it ‘for free’, which fans and fellow fighters found cowardly.

Well, it is safe to say that UFC commentator Michael Bisping is not one of those people and thinks ‘Sweet Dreams’ made the right decision. “Now a lot of people’s opinions on social media [about Jamahal Hill’s UFC PI confrontation with Alex Pereira] was that Jamahal kind of bit–ed out. But I’ll be honest, I kind of agreed with his take… Why would you want to fight in the gym when you can get paid a ridiculous amount of money to fight for real?” he said on his YouTube channel.

“Although on the flip side, I see why people say that as well. I see why they formed the opinion that he kind of wimped out a little bit. Because he did approach him and Pereira threw the gloves. They’re already in a gym, they could have trained, they could have done a round or two. But they would have got carried away, it would have escalated out of control and somebody might have ended up getting hurt, okay? And to Jamahal’s original point, why would you do that for free?” the former middleweight champion added. And Hill’s actions do seem a bit more justified because the American looks to be on the cusp of a rematch with Pereira.

Jamahal Hill aims to go for the title after UFC 311

Jamahal Hill and Alex Pereira stood face to face in April 2023 as they main-evented the iconic UFC 300. Hill had talked up a good game and vowed to put the Brazilian to sleep. However, unfortunately, the former champ fell victim to Pereira’s legendary left hook in the first round in a humiliating loss.

However, Hill feels that ‘Poatan’ essentially cheated. After all, ‘Sweet Dreams’ feels the Brazilian champion took unfair advantage of a break in action to close the distance with him and knock him out at the anniversary mega-card. This is why he is so desperate to rematch Pereira- to redeem this unceremonious loss. And that chance may come pretty soon.

Hill is set to face Jiri Prochazka at UFC 311 later this month. If he wins that fight, the American will have an excellent case to make for a title fight with Pereira. Of course, if Pereira still holds the 205lbs title by that time. ‘Poatan’, of course, has been calling for a heavyweight title shot since last year, and the UFC may well oblige him eventually. What do you think about Michael Bisping’s support for Jamahal Hill’s actions at the UFC PI?
