UFC returned to Canada for the first time in years and there was a buzz around the UFC world. UFC 289 featured a number of Canadian fighters right from the prelims to the main card. Similarly, one of the most anticipated bouts apart from the main and the co-main event featured Adam Fugitt as he took on Canadian fighter Mike Mallot.

However, one noticeable event occurred on the main card of UFC 289 and it was not what the fans imagined. As Mallot entered the UFC octagon, the barricade in the arena collapsed, which caused some chaos at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada.

Barricade collapse at UFC 289 caused chaos in the arena

A barricade collapse during a highly anticipated match sent shockwaves through the arena, causing chaos and endangering the safety of numerous spectators. What was supposed to be a night of thrilling fights turned into a scare for the Canadian fans in the arena. BJPenndotcom reported, “Barricade apparently collapsed at UFC 289 causing multiple fans to fall to the floor”.

The atmosphere quickly shifted from excitement to panic for some seconds when a section of the barricade separating the audience from the ring gave way under the pressure of the enthusiastic fans.

Additionally, Megan Olivi was also reported to have been affected by the collapse. However, the UFC reporter saw the funny side of it. Olivi said, For anyone who saw me lose my shoes and almost eat concrete I hoped you laughed as much as I just did

The sudden collapse resulted in multiple individuals losing their balance and falling onto the floor, leading to a scene of utter chaos. However, Mike Malott did not stop as he made his way into the octagon.

What happened after the barricade collapse at UFC 289?

The show went on despite the hiccup during the main card. Mallot secured a win as the arena erupted to see the Canadian fighter defeating Fugitt. ‘Proper’ successfully stole the show in his home country as he continued his winning streak to 6 fights.
