UFC’s Beneil Dariush has been in the news lately because of his beef with Conor McGregor. Dariush, who is currently a top fighter in the lightweight division, believes he deserves a title shot. However, in a new interview with ‘The Schmo’, the fighter had some advice for his UFC 262 opponent, Tony Ferguson.

Dariush said, “I actually think Tony has the right idea right now. He’s talking about working with the team, having people who can push him, having a head coach where he’s not the head coach, where he doesn’t wake up and be like ‘I feel like doing this’.”
“Man, just because you feel something, isn’t always the right thing to do. Sometimes your coaches know better. Honestly, 90% of the time when I wake up in the morning, I feel like not training because I’m beat up and I’m old.”

“But that’s not, that’s not how it works. So it’s important to have coaches who expect things from you. And you don’t want to fail that expectation.”
‘El Cucuy’ returned to the Octagon at UFC 274 after a year. He faced Michael Chandler and lost via T/KO in the second round. Hence, Ferguson had planned to go back and work harder. It seems like Dariush agrees with Ferguson’s plans.

The former interim UFC lightweight champion, who was once on a 12-fight win streak, is currently coming off four consecutive losses against some of the best UFC lightweights. Now, at 38, he knows time is running out if he is to rise back to the upper echelons of 155.
What’s next for Tony Ferguson?
As reported by ‘MMA Mania‘, Ferguson felt working on his basics could have helped him finish Chandler in the first round itself. Hence, it looks like he will be making a lot of changes.

He is ready to leave his comfort zone and join a team. Besides this, it also looks like ‘El Cucuy’ is ready to go back to the 170-pound division; the same division where he won ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ back in 2011.

If Tony Ferguson moves to the welterweight division, it would be interesting to see if there are any differences in his performance in the Octagon. After all, the fighter wouldn’t have to cut as much weight.
