Spotify just can’t seem to catch a break. The audio streaming platform has been involved in controversy for some time now, and things might just be getting worse. In recent weeks, the traffic to the cancellation page of Spotify Premium has increased. This comes after the company faced backlash in supporting Joe Rogan.

According to SimilarWeb, an analytics firm, the cancellation page saw a spike of 196 percent week-over-week. Over the past few weeks, Spotify has also seen its market value drop.

The audio streaming giant got embroiled in all this by backing Joe Rogan. Rogan is a long-time UFC commentator and also the host of the Joe Rogan Experience. His podcast airs only on Spotify with the deal being made in 2020. Recently, Rogan has received criticism over spreading misinformation regarding the COVID-19 vaccine.

First, a group of over 250 doctors, scientists, and researchers signed a petition against Rogan. They asked Spotify to call out misinformation that he was spreading. Singer-songwriter Neil Young followed them and removed all his music from the platform. In a statement, he said that either Spotify can have him or Rogan. Since then, many other artists and celebrities have followed them. There are demands to cancel Rogan. However, Daniel Ek doesn’t believe that is a solution, but they ended up removing several of his episodes from the platform.
