Daniel Cormier is one of the most decorated fighters in MMA history. He is a former two-division UFC champion and has fought some of the biggest names in the sport. Now he works as a commentator during the UFC events and has his own show and podcast.

Recently on Twitter, a fan surprised Cormier with some amazing stats and comparison between two welterweight legends in the UFC. A fan, while replying to him, posted a photo that compared the championship runs of Georges St-Pierre and Kamaru Usman. Usman is the current UFC welterweight champion and has defended his title five times. He is definitely one of the greatest of all time, but GSP by many is considered the greatest mixed martial artist of all time. While reacting to the post, DC said, “S**t I didn’t know all this.”

GSP fought some of the biggest names in MMA history. He had elite striking and ground game, which made him a tough opponent for anyone. The former two-division UFC champion defended his welterweight title nine times. For many, ‘Rush’ vs ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ is a dream fight, but it seems highly unlikely the fight will ever happen.

Kamaru Usman wanted to fight Georges St-Pierre

Kamaru Usman is on a historic run in the UFC. He is currently on a 15 fight win streak, which is the second highest in promotion’s history. He has defended his title five times, and looks to be improving with each fight. Because of his run, it is natural for everyone to compare him and his success to that of GSP. St-Pierre ruled the welterweight division for a very long time.

In an interview with Full Send Podcast, Usman was asked if there was any talk about fighting GSP. He said, “Absolutely, I wanted it, see Georges is the shadow that haunts the division. Well, did. Not anymore. When Tyron Woodley was champ, he haunted the division.”

When Robbie Lawler was champ, Georges haunted the division, because everyone knew the champ never lost his belt and he was just kind of floating out there, still training, you could tell he was still working out, and he was just kind of out there,” he added.

However, according to Usman, the fight didn’t happen because GSP doesn’t want it. He said, “Georges doesn’t want it, I know he doesn’t want it, so that’s okay. I’ve let that ship sail because he’s retired. Let him retire in peace, eat and drink, do whatever he wants.”

GSP is still in top shape, and to date trains, so a comeback fight is never completely off the table. However, it is very unlikely that he will comeback to fight Usman.
