While Amanda Nunes is widely regarded as the greatest female UFC fighter, none has come close to the popularity of Ronda Rousey. The former bantamweight champion, during her heydays, was one of the most recognized UFC fighters.

During her reign as a champion, the media blitz behind her was unimaginable. Every magazine and every TV show interviewed her, and she was even on the cover of the UFC 2 video game. Moreover, she even bagged several movie roles and made appearances on the red carpet.

Ronda Rousey attained Hollywood stardom when she secured a role in Sylvester Stallone’s starter, The Expendables 3. The movie perfectly capitalized on Rowdy’s skills as a mixed martial artist. However, she was just a little too good at getting into the character.

Ronda Rousey broke Patrick Hughes’s ribs
Patrick Hughes, who was the director of the movie, narrated a behind the scene incident that involved Rousey. He revealed how she broke his rib while trying to calm her nervous energy.

Hughes said, “Ronda’s first time ever on camera was the scene with Sly at a bar, and she’s really super nervous. I went up and said, “Well, what do you do before a big fight?” And she says, “I like to spar in my room. I get that nervous energy out.” And I said, “So you need to hit something? Let’s find something to hit.”

Furthermore, the director revealed that The UFC fighter wanted to hit him. She asked him to raise his arms before she landed a massive punch to his ribs.

He added, “she said, “But I want to hit you.” She was like, “Put your arms up.” And I’m thinking, “Ronda’s just going to do this.” I put my hands up, and she goes wham! Next day, I was getting dressed and my kids were there at the time [and] my 7-year-old daughter said “What’s that?” And I had this huge, black mark. I had a broken rib. And I said, “I got beaten up by an actress.”

Rousey ended up breaking his ribs. However, this didn’t stop her from progressing in her acting career and she landed even bigger movie roles in movies like Furious 7.
