Erceg’s relationship with his father

Like any father and son, Steve Erceg has a special bond with his father, Matthew Erceg. In a 2021 interview, the 27-year-old mentioned that his father played a very important role in his path to becoming a professional mixed martial artist. Moreover, Erceg took the decision to become an MMA fighter after he witnessed one of Brock Lesnar’s fights on TV with his father, Matthew, who agreed to go ahead with what the young ‘Astro Boy’ wanted to pursue.

“After watching one of the UFC events where Brock Lesnar fought, I just told ‘Dad, I really want to do MMA.’ So, he found an MMA gym and took me to [that] gym,” Erceg stated. His father’s contribution to his passion has led him to the most important fight of his career at UFC 301 since he stated in an article posted on UFC’s website that he wants to put on an eye-opening fight.

UFC 300 truly lived up to the hype even though fans were initially questioning Dana White’s choice for the main event. Now, UFC 301 has an emerging fighter who will be fighting for the title. It will be interesting to see if presenting an opportunity to fight for the championship in Steve Erceg’s 4th UFC fight was a good choice by the matchmakers.
