The MMA community faced a huge disappointment when the most anticipated bout between Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush was scrapped. However, it seems that a very exciting match is on the way to UFC 288. At the moment, Gilbert Burns has called out Dustin Poirier. The UFC president Dana White has already mentioned that he is looking for an interesting matchup after the cancellation of the bout between ‘Do Bronx’ and Dariush. He even stated that Gilbert Burns would be one of the fighters.

At first, many believed that Burns would face Belal Muhammad in UFC 288. However, due to Ramadan, ‘Remember The Name’ had issues making weight, so he wanted the bout to be catchweight. Burns disagreed with the idea and later went on to call out Dustin Poirier. Now, ‘The Diamond’ has also agreed to move up to fight ‘Durinho’, but on one condition.

Fans react to Gilbert Burns calling out Dustin Poirier

It seems that the bout between Muhammad and ‘Durinho’ might not come to fruition. Hence, Burns called out Poirier through social media. He wrote, “All do respect to @DustinPoirier I know you are a dog! May 6 I suppose to fight Belal for n1 contender! I just think me and you will be an amazing fight! Nothing but respect  #ufc288”  

After coming across the tweet, the Diamond too showed the green signal. He wrote back, “Respect Gilbert  I can make 170 no problem, I’m not really in fight shape but (money) talks.” Fans were perplexed after watching the sudden shifts in the events. Moreover, Poirier made it clear that if he gets great pay, he is ready to move up and fight. Soon fans started discussing it.

 One of the fans felt that Poirier and Burns could be a “decent scrap.” “Dustin and Gilbert might be a decent scrap yk”

 Another fan asked to take his money for the bout. “Take my money now”

One fan pointed out how Burns can’t even take a strong decision. “This clown can’t even make up his mind.. why are you after a lightweight”

One of the fans asked why Burns chose money over the number-one contender position.“Gilbert going money fight over number 1 contender bout?”

‘Durinho’ versus ‘The Diamond’ for UFC 288?

UFC 288 is all set to take place on May 7 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling, will square off against the former UFC two-division champion. Henry Cejudo. Earlier, it was decided that Dariush and Oliveira would face each other in the co-main event. Now that it is canceled, Burns and Poirier might fight in the co-main event of UFC 288.
