Dustin Poirier, UFC’s most violent slugger in the lightweight division, is all set to say goodbye to the sport. He has always come just an inch short of completing the dream of becoming a champion. But now, at UFC 318 on July 19th, he’s preparing to face Max Holloway for the BMF title. The preparation to be called the baddest is in full swing, and he’s receiving all the good wishes from his fans, especially from his family.

‘The Diamond’ has always been a family man. Countless times, he has dedicated his fights to his loved ones. After his UFC 302 loss to Islam Makhachev last year, the Louisiana native shared his deep love for his family. During the post-fight interview, he stated: “I was fighting to be the world champion. What else am I fighting for? Just to fight for the thrill—because I am addicted to it, no doubt… for the money? I’m good. Me and my family are good. I don’t need the money. Money is great, but my health is first.”

In 2025, Poirier is all set to begin a new chapter in his personal life, as he and his wife, Jolie Poirier, are preparing to welcome ‘baby Dustin’ into the world. But this year will also mark the end of an era for ‘The Diamond,’ as he’s set to face Holloway at UFC 318 in front of his home crowd at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. He has already announced the start of his training camp with an Instagram story captioned, “It has begun.”

Now, Dustin Poirier’s wife, Jolie Poirier, has shared another Instagram story. This time showing the man himself holding their daughter, Parker Poirier, with American Top Team bags beside him at the airport as he departs for the final fight of his career. Jolie captioned the story: “And the journey begins! Still doesn’t feel real that you’re heading out for your final training camp. We love you so much, see you soon.”

The Louisiana slugger will be joining his expert team of talented fighters in Coconut Creek, Florida. He had already traveled to California a few weeks ago for some early training, so it seems he briefly returned home before heading out again. The preparation will kick into full gear as he reunites with coach Mike Brown and possibly fellow lightweight Mateusz Gamrot.

Neil Magny and Gunnar Nelson join the Dustin Poirier vs Max Holloway card

The main event of UFC 318 is, of course, the biggest attraction for fans. However, a massive veteran clash between Gunnar Nelson and Neil Magny is also set to give viewers another big reason to cheer, especially those who have been following the sport for a long time and appreciate the legacy and contributions of these seasoned fighters in the UFC.

What’s your perspective on:

Will Dustin Poirier's final fight against Max Holloway be his ultimate masterpiece in the Octagon?

Have an interesting take?

Neil Magny will step into the Octagon for the 35th time and for the first time in 2025. Following back-to-back losses against two of the hottest rising prospects, Michael Morales and Carlos Prates, in 2024. His last victory came against Canadian sensation Mike Malott at UFC 297, where he handed Malott the first loss of his career.

His opponent, Gunnar Nelson, also had a few lackluster performances. His wins were often followed by losses. But most of his bouts were against some of the very best in the welterweight division, like Leon Edwards, Gilbert Burns, and Kevin Holland. The Icelandic warrior also has impressive victories over Takeshi Sato and Bryan Barberena.

Marvin Vettori vs. Brendan Allen is also an announced bout, most likely set to be the co-headliner of the event. What makes this fight even more interesting is that both Nelson and Magny have long been recognized as gatekeepers in the welterweight division. So, after facing rising prospects, they are now set to square off against each other in a veteran showdown.

That’s definitely going to be a treat for the OG fans. With that being said, do you think that Dustin Poirier will put his career-best performance against Max Holloway at UFC 318? Also, what do you think about the card itself? Please let us know by commenting below!
