Tom Aspinall reveals weight lifting routine for incredible speed

When asked about his workout routine on the Geordie Time podcast, Aspinall shared his process. “I’ve trained in a lot of different places and um, the speed thing has been encouraged by everybody,” he said.

The interim champ credits his genetics for his ability to move quicker than the average heavyweight, saying, “I’ve always been fast and I think I’m genetically fast anyway. I don’t think, you can definitely improve that to a degree but, I think I’m genetically fast anyway. I always wanted to keep up with the smaller guys, never wanted to let my size hold me back.”

The “Modern Heavyweight” as Geordie calls him, explained his weightlifting technique implying how it was different than the normal bodybuilding exercise, stating, “Even like lifting weights, I’m not lifting weights like bodybuilders I’m not doing all time on detention and stuff like I’m lifting the weights as fast as I can for short amount of reps and I’m putting it down.”

The UFC heavyweight division is currently at a bit of a standstill as the division has two dominant champions. One being the fighter who many consider as the best fighter to grace the UFC octagon, Jon Jones. While the other being the young interim champion, Tom Aspinall. Also, with Stipe Miočić in the picture, the waters seem particularly muddy.

The interim champion also voiced out his frustration as he believes that “UFC politics” might lead to him becoming second priority despite of being the interim champion. The frustration was quite apparent as he told the heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, to relinquish his title.
