Everybody wants to be a double champion, it seems. Jon Jones moved up to heavyweight after a long light heavyweight reign and defeated Ciryl Gane to capture the championship at the heaviest weight division in the UFC. Alex Pereira, after losing his middleweight title to Israel Adesanya at UFC 287, has moved up to light heavyweight and will fight Jiri Prochazka for its vacant title soon.

Alexander Volkanovski tried his hand at it at UFC 294 just two days ago on a short notice fight but fell to a devastating head-kick from Islam Makhachev in the first round. Makhachev himself has spoken about wanting to fight the winner of the upcoming Leon Edwards vs Colby Covington welterweight title bout at UFC 296 in December. Only five people in the history of the sport have managed to become consecutive double champions. One of these five is Conor McGregor who reminded fans of just how great he is on Twitter (X).

Team Khabib checks Conor McGregor for comparing himself to Muhammad Ali

Conor McGregor took to X and retweeted a video whose title suggested he would be a stylistic nightmare for ‘Alexander The Great’. “Conor McGregor would be a nightmare matchup for Volk,” it said. He retweeted it with a caption that suggested he was the world’s “greatest” double champion and that he was the best thing to happen to combat sports since Muhammad Ali.

McGregor is a former simultaneous UFC and Cage Warriors featherweight and lightweight champion. “The Double World’s Greatest! Ain’t no man since Ali, shook up the world like Mac G!” McGregor tweeted.

These strong claims did not go down well with Islam Makhachev and former Khabib Nurmagomedov manager Ali Abdelaziz. He wrote that McGregor was a one-round fighter and he should stop making such strong claims.

“You are one round fighter please enough of the bullsh*t,” Abdelaziz retorted. ‘Mac’s endurance and stamina have been the subject of criticism from fans. Many feel McGregor tends to go all-out in the early rounds, thus depleting his gas tank for the later rounds. Interestingly, this is not the only recent tweet from McGregor that received strong responses.

‘Mac’ wants this change in UFC rules going forward

Conor McGregor hasn’t fought since July 2021, recuperating from a devastating leg injury sustained during his trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier. He will take on TUF 31 rival coach Michael Chandler in his comeback bout. And while he has been out of action, he has continued to be active on social media.

Before the Kamaru Usman vs. Khamzat Chimaev fight to determine who will fight champion Sean Strickland for the middleweight title next, he spoke up in favor of these bouts being five rounds. “No.1 contender fights should be 5 rounds,” he tweeted.

The UFC 294 co-main event, contrary to expectations, was a somewhat close fight. Although the first round clearly belonged to Chimaev, the last two were much closer with most giving Usman at least one round, with another round being open for discussion. Many felt that Usman was gaining momentum as the fight progressed, and even Dana White remarked that if the fight had five rounds, it probably would have gone differently. Considering these aspects, do you agree with McGregor’s suggestion? Let us know in the comments section below.
