Team Khabib Says Umar Nurmagomedov Resorted to ‘Father’s Plan’ After Being Rocked

Umar Nurmagomedov seems to be a man on a mission in the UFC. The Dagestani fighter kept his winning momentum going after beating newcomer Bekzat Almakhan at UFC Fight Night. With this win, ‘Young Eagle’ has extended his career record to a perfect 17-0. The bantamweight title doesn’t seem too far for the 28-year-old.

After his fight, coach Javier Mendez took to his podcast to analyze the fight. Although the Dagestani fighter won the fight, he did have a scare during the first 30 seconds into the fight. However, coach Mendez pointed out how he stuck to the plan and came out on top. Let us find out what he had to say.

‘ Young Eagle’ went into the fight with a perfect record of 16-0 against Bekzat Almakhan. While many felt that this would be a one-sided affair, Almakhan shocked the 28-year-old with a heavy right hand. However, Nurmagomedov kept his composure and got back into the fight and finally won it via decision. His coach Javier Mendez recently took to his YouTube to share his thoughts on his comeback. Mendez credited him for keeping his cool and sticking to the game plan.

He said, “Yeah, that was basically father’s plan attack. And you know, we knew that Umar was the superior grappler. So we needed to make sure we got the fight there. We worked on kickboxing distance don’t get in close because a guy. You know we don’t want to give a guy an opportunity. This guy has good power like this guy. And the fight was going on. You know I was telling Umar what was he telling you. He’s talking to you, he goes yeah he wanted me to stand up goes let’s stand up and Umar said no no let’s fight on the ground let’s strike here.

‘Young Eagle’ used his grappling skills to his full use and extended his unbeaten run in the bantamweight division. The 28-year-old also received praise from Khabib Nurmagomedov who took to his Instagram and captioned, “Love this guys @usman_nurmagomedov, @aliabdelaziz, @akajav @umar_nurmagomedov”. While the 28-year-old impressed one and all with his performance whom will he face next?

Umar Nurmagomedov shares his thoughts on Cory Sandhagen

‘Young Eagle’ has currently taken the bantamweight division by storm with his back-to-back performances. However, it seems that the 28-year-old is not happy. Previously the Dagestani Fighter had called out of fights because of health related issues but now seems unhappy with the narrative surrounding his withdrawals. During his post fight press conference he stated, “Everybody talks about my pullouts, in my life, I pulled out because of me, my health – two times.” He also cleared that his withdrawals were only because of his health issues and not because of fear of any opponents.

The Dagestani fighter then shifted his focus to Cory Sandhagen who previously showed his interest in fighting him. The pair was initially supposed to fight each other, but the fight was later cancelled because of a shoulder injury to Nurmagomedov. During the press conference he said, “Next is Cory Sandhagen.
