‘That Was a Very Bad Injury’- Sean O’Malley Says Conor McGregor Should Take All the Time He Needs

UFC bantamweight Sean O’Malley sat down with Helen Yee and talked about his upcoming bout at UFC 269. Sean O’Malley takes on Raulian Paiva on the main card that is headlined by Charles Oliveira with the lightweight strap on the line. Chiefly, every time O’Malley fights, it breaks major news as fans want to see how his career progresses.

In the midst of the interview, Sean O’Malley was also asked to shed some light on Conor McGregor’s highly anticipated return. ‘Sugar’ Sean has been on record saying that he admires what McGregor has done in the sport, and wants to follow in his footsteps. O’Malley played with the idea of Conor McGregor possibly facing Michael Chandler, however, he acknowledged that this was a hard fight to jump right back into.

“I think Michael Chandler is a tough tough fight for anyone. Conor typically does good against the shorter guys, I just don’t know if Conor looks at Michael Chandler and thinks that’s a good comeback fight. We don’t know what Conor is thinking.”

O’Malley continued on to laud Conor McGregor for taking a sufficient amount of time off after his UFC 264 injury. ‘Notorious’ suffered a catastrophic leg break during his trilogy fight against Poirier and has been on the sidelines. While O’Malley is looking forward to the return of the Irishman, he also knows the lightweight division is a shark tank.

“I’m glad he’s at least saying he’s not going to fight till later in 2022, cause that was a very bad injury and that takes time to heal. Whatever decision he takes will he the right decision, whether it’s Chandler. There’s no easy fight for Conor to come back in the 155-pound division..we’ll see, it’s a dangerous fight.”
