Derrick Lewis clashed with Chris Daukaus for a main-event fight on UFC Fight Night 199. ‘The Black Beast’, started and ended the match explosively. With no threatening responses from Chris, Lewis unleashed a barrage of right hooks. This led to Daukaus getting knocked out under 4 minutes of the first round.

The 36-year-old heavyweight celebrated his victory with his signature celebration and even danced to finish the commemoration. Consequently, in a post-fight conference, he was asked about the knockout and whether it was more gratifying than any of his other KOs.

 With the most knockouts under his name, Derrick replied, “That was for Rodney King. I’m fighting a police officer, man. Come on, man. That’s the only time you get a chance to punch a police officer in the mouth and get away with it. Then get up and shake your hands. That’s a great feeling, man.”

Previously he shared, “Whenever you’re fighting a police officer, you don’t want to get Rodney King’d“. Chris was actually a real-life police officer in Philadelphia who quit his job recently. Before this, he was a part-timer fighter.

Derrick Lewis opens about his past

Derrick had a tough upbringing. He is the second oldest son amongst 7 total siblings, with a single mom. In an interview with Joe Rogan, Lewis shared his journey of overcoming his past.

The lack of money and support really took a toll on Lewis. The impressive journey of Lewis dealing with various obstacles in life to ultimately fighting in the octagon truly has inspired a lot of people.

Who will Derrick Lewis fight next?

After this impressive victory, Derrick is in a position to negotiate for a title shot. Currently, Francis Ngannou holds the heavyweight champion belt. He will take on Ciryl Gane at UFC 270 on January 22, 2022.
