Once the number one contender͏ for the lightweight title, Charles Oliveira suffered a huge setback at UFC ͏300 when the young Arman Tsarukyan defea͏ted th͏e Brazili͏an stalwart by u͏nanimo͏us decision.͏ ͏Although ‘Do Bronx’ put up a tough fight against the Armenian, it fell short in the end. After the loss, Olivei͏ra is now ranked 2nd in the lightweight ran͏kings, just below Tsa͏r͏ukyan. In light of this, the lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev has invited ͏the former numb͏er one contender͏ to train together in Dagestan.

During the UFC 302 press conference, when asked about his opinion on Charles Oliveira, Islam Makhachev said, “Charles is a good guy. If I can help him, he can join us in our camp in Dagestan. He has very good striking, so we can help him with wrestling.” The lightweight champion expressed gratitude for his former opponent. So,why did Makhachev invite Oliveira? Well, Colby Covington seems to be challenging Oliveira for a fight at ‘170’ lbs and the probability of that fight happening is all-time high now.

The offer might sound lucrative to Oliveira now, as he lacks wrestling skills, however, the former lightweight contender expressed that he is an important part of ‘Chute Boxing Gym’ and will stay there. “I’m grateful for Islam’s kindness in inviting me to train [with him in Dagestan], but I am only part of Chute Boxe. I have no intention of training anywhere else. I’m happy with everything he said. He had a great fight at UFC 302 and demonstrated that he is the champion,” said Oliveira via bandsports.

Well, Oliveira’s loyalty to his gym should not be questioned as before joining the institution, the ‘Do Bronks’ tally was 10-8, however, after joining the gym, he went on an 11-fight winning streak. Nonetheless, the MMA community has its own views. Let’s have a look at what the MMA community is yapping about.

Fans disappointed as Charles Oliveira rejects Islam Makhachev’s offer

Charles Olive͏ira is arguably ͏one of ͏the best BJ͏J artists in the promotion,͏ but his ͏wrestling skills are relatively weak. His clashes again͏st Islam Makhachev ͏and Ar͏man Tsaruky͏an ͏clearly demonstrated ͏this weak͏͏n͏ess. Fans believe that ‘Do Bronx’ should train in Dagestan for at least ͏tw͏o weeks to improve his wrestling skills.

“That’s his mistake though. It’s obvious his wrestling isn’t the best and needs to be worked on. Just go there for 2-3 months at least”

Imagine Charles Oliveira with professional wrestling skills as the Dagestani’s. It would be mayhem in the lightweight division. If we look at the stats then, it’s clearly evident that the Dagestani camp aka, team Khabib has ousted their opponents due to their dominant wrestling and fans seem to want Oliveira to have that too.

“A shame, Charles Oliveirov would have been a beast”

UFC 300 proved that Olievria is vulnerable to high-class wrestling and fans believe that it would have been better for the Brazilian if he had gone for the training.

“Oliveira should have went he got out wrestled by fucking Arman”

More fans rally behind Charles Oliveira to take training at Dagestan.

“Nuts he shoulda went”

Dustin Poirier focuses on striking more, while Oliveira focuses on BJJ more. This has proved to be a boon as well as a bane for both as they have won multiple fights with it but lost crucial championship fights.

“If Dustin and Charles went to Dagestan it’s over for LW”

Last but not least, a fan gave a pretty decent logic behind Oliveira’s reluctance to be a part of Dagestani camp.

“Most likely charles would like a stab at the title again. He wouldnt want to train in the same team as his future opponent”

An all-round Charles Oliveira would be a monster in the lightweight division. The MMA community wants to witness that monster, however, the Brazilian is not keen to leave his gym. What’s your take on this? State your thoughts in the comments below.
