Jon Jones made a triumphant return to the Octagon at UFC 285. He defeated Ciryl Gane in the first round via submission. Following his win, he called out Stipe Miocic for a fight for his first heavyweight title defense. However, UFC legend and critic Chael Sonnen isn’t sure if that fight will come to fruition.

The reigning UFC heavyweight champion expressed his desire to fight ‘The Silencer’, whom he considers one of the greatest heavyweights in UFC history. He even hinted that it could be his last fight as well. But Chael Sonnen doesn’t seem to believe that the fight will take place.

In his latest YouTube video, ‘The American Gangster’ mentioned how Conor McGregor‘s fight against Michael Chandler is undergoing plans for it to take place in November. The fight will certainly be a headliner at the Madison Square Garden. However, if that is what the UFC decides to do, it might spell trouble for Jon Jones’s fight against Stipe Miocic.

Chael Sonnen said, “If Conor and Chandler go to the top of the bill for the Garden in November, it means that Jones and Stipe come off the top of the bill for the card at the [Madison Square] Garden in November.” It is important to note that both matches have the star power to headline a PPV card. But if McGregor vs Chandler gets the green light, there is a possibility of the UFC scrapping the heavyweight clash.

‘The American Gangster’ claims the heavyweight fight may not get re-booked

Chael Sonnen also shared a prediction about what will happen if the Jones vs Miocic fight gets canceled in November. He believes that the UFC brass may drop the idea of the heavyweight clash and there’s even a much lower probability of the fight getting moved to another PPV event. Sonnen said, “If Jones and Stipe doesn’t happen, for whatever reason, if that fight doesn’t happen, that fight isn’t going to happen.”

Sonnen also spoke about the three-year absence of Jon Jones from the action. This could only mean that ‘Bones’ doesn’t want to wait to fight Stipe Miocic. He added, “That’s not going to be re-booked and reworked again. Jon doesn’t want to wait.”

Despite the questions surrounding Jones’ fight against the former two-time champion, a fight against Miocic would be a great way to solidify Jones’ status as a heavyweight contender.
