Joe Rogan has an extensive background in martial arts. As such, he never fails to show his respect for someone who has achieved tremendous success in that realm of combat sports. But more than that, the 55-year-old commends people for their work ethic. He recently shed light on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu star Gordon Ryan and what led to his success in submission grappling.

Gordon F. Ryan III, popularly known as Gordon Ryan, is one of the biggest BJJ athletes in the history of combat sports. Although he’s just 27 years old, he has a resume that most fighters can only dream of. A New Jersey native, ‘The King’ Ryan is a 5-time ADCC champion.

He has already achieved a mind-boggling record of 153 2ins and only 9 losses. Additionally, Ryan has also won the World No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu Championship a total of three times. He has had a career that is more than impressive, to say the least. Meanwhile, Joe Rogan spoke about how Gordon Ryan achieved all those accolades in a conversation with UFC strawweight Gillian Robertson.

Joe Rogan and Gillian Robertson praise the work ethic of Gordon Ryan

While having a conversation on the ‘JRE MMA Show’ #140 about some of the fighters who train just months before a scheduled bout, Joe Rogan mentioned that Gordon Ryan tends to keep himself busy throughout the year. He said, “When you think about Gordon Ryan, no one doubts that he’s the best No-Gi grappler ever.” The 55-year-old added, “But no one also doubts that he works 365 days a year. That’s an insane work schedule and these are insane results.”

In addition to that Gillian Robertson stated that she believes most high-level black belt fighters tend to stop going hard at a certain point. Meanwhile, she pointed out that ‘The King’ Ryan is one of those people who just never seems to stop. “A lot of black belts are, like, people who are at a high level, they stop drilling. They stop doing the stuff that, like, Gordon Ryan still drills every day and that’s why he’s so good at what he does.”

Being the first grappler in history to win gold in three divisions, Ryan also holds the record for the fastest ADCC submission. He even wanted to get into MMA, but that never came to fruition. Ryan’s achievements speak for themselves and looking at it, it’s hard to think of anything other than the fact that he’s one of, if not, the greatest grappler ever.
