Alex Pereira is now a two-promotion double champion. After his UFC 295 victory over Jiri Prochazka, the former middleweight champion has become the new UFC light heavyweight champion. Pereira was the first and only double champion in the kickboxing promotion Glory before his latest UFC achievement.

But Pereira, as we all know, still has unfinished business at middleweight against his nemesis, Israel Adesanya. As such, ‘Poatan’ called out ‘Izzy’ from the Octagon for a trilogy fight after his latest victory. However, one former opponent of Pereira’s disagrees strongly.

Alex Pereira faced Jan Blachowicz in his first match at light heavyweight. The Brazilian eked out a split decision victory, which many feel could have gone either way against the Pole at UFC 291 earlier this year. The former light heavyweight champion tweeted after the UFC 295 main event to express his disgust at Pereira calling out Adesanya.

Pereira stated that Adesanya had motivated him to join the UFC when ‘Izzy’ trash-talked him in an interview, which led him to where he is today. He said that he wanted to return the favor and give Adesanya the chance to redeem himself against him.

Blachowicz, however, was not impressed and demanded ‘Poatan’ forget about Adesanya for the time being until he and Pereira settle their unfinished business. The Pole warned the new lightweight champion that the judges would not be able to give him the decision the next time they fight.

“@AlexPereiraUFC I know you’re a slimy one. Calling out Izzy. Great performance and all but STFU, we have unfinished business you and I. The judges won’t give you hand outs next time. Pathetic,” he tweeted. Pereira seems to be spoiled for choice as far as potential opponents are concerned. However, this is not the case for the winner of the co-main event, Tom Aspinall, who probably will not get a fight against the MMA GOAT.

Tom Aspinall calls out Jon Jones after UFC 295 victory

Tom Aspinall defeated Sergei Pavlovich in the co-main event of UFC 295 to become the interim heavyweight champion. Following that, the Englishman called out Jon Jones, the heavyweight champion for a “dream fight” in his native Manchester. ‘Bones’ congratulated Aspinall on his victory and praised the Englishman’s performance. “Tom congratulations on the interim heavyweight championship belt! That was an awesome performance!” Jones tweeted.

Aspinall was happy to receive praise from Jones, but reiterated that he wanted to face Jones in Manchester. “I think we should do Tom Aspinall vs Jon Jones in Manchester. That is something special and I’m sure that UFC will be on board with that. That would be special,” he told reporters.

However, the chances of a Jones vs. Aspinall bout are slim. As things stand, Jones will fight heavyweight GOAT Stipe Miocic for a legacy-defining bout after he recovers from a right pectoral injury. And the MMA GOAT has indicated that he would retire after his next fight.

Hi, I am Kanishk and I am a UFC Writer at EssentiallySports. I never really used to watch MMA, thinking it too crude or brutal a sport to deserve respect.
