Khamzat Chimaev stirred up quite a storm last year after missing weight for his fight against Nate Diaz. The Chechen star was supposed to be Diaz’s final opponent in the UFC. However, Chimaev fumbled the ball on the scales and earned the ire of the fans. Now, ‘Borz’ has come forward with some claims about the UFC 279 debacle and what happened behind the scenes. However, Diaz’s camp has debunked Chimaev’s claims and fired back with strong words.

Chimaev recently claimed that Chechen dictator Ramzan Kadyrov offered Diaz $2 million to fight Chimaev after the weight-cut fiasco. The 27-year-old said, “Ramzan Akhmatovich called me and said he would give Nate $2 million to agree to the fight. I told Diaz, but he still refused. He didn’t want to fight me and just found another option.”

However, Diaz ended up fighting Tony Ferguson at UFC 279. Evidently, team Diaz rejected any offer that was made to realize the Chimaev fight. Nevertheless, they have denied Chimaev’s claims of the multi-million dollar offer.

In response to Chimaev’s claims, Diaz’s representative, Zach Rosenfield, laid out their side of the story. He also retaliated in a strong fashion against ‘Borz’s’ claims of offering Diaz more money to fight Chimaev. MMA analyst Ariel Helwani shared Rosenfield’s words in a tweet.

Rosenfield said the Russian-born fighter must have asked Diaz for a fight in his ‘fairytail’.

“The only millions that were negotiated on that Friday were the millions more that we got for fighting Tony after Khamzat was not professional enough to show up for the fight we asked for.”

Evidently, Diaz’s team did not take kindly to Chimaev’s allegations. Despite Diaz’s swan song at UFC 279, his beef with Chimaev is still going on strong and this is only one chapter of it. Fans will have to wait and see what other details of this story will unfold in the coming days.
